NYC’s Bar Sardine Fedora Burger (…and the Healthy Swaps)

Get ready to dive into a recipe that might not fit the usual ‘health and wellness’ blog vibe, but trust me, it’s all about those pure self-care vibes. Back in the days when I called NYC’s West Village home, the Bar Sardine Fedora Burger was my ultimate mood lifter.

Just steps away from my place, I’d casually stroll in, snag a cozy spot at the bar, and pair that burger perfection with a glass of chilled red. It was my fail-proof pick-me-up, and let’s keep it real, suggesting dates there was mostly my clever excuse to savor that heavenly burger.

This recipe remake isn’t just about experimenting in the kitchen—it’s a heartfelt ode to the legendary spot that’s woven into my NYC story. Sadly, life had its twists, and when I moved, Bar Sardine succumbed to the pandemic.

But don’t sweat it, fam, because right here, right now, we’re resurrecting the magic of that iconic NYC burger. Let’s keep the flame alive, one delicious bite at a time.

Ingredients

  • 6 oz ground beef seasoned with salt and pepper
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons BBQ sauce
  • Thinly sliced sour pickle
  • Thinly sliced red onion
  • 1/2 potato thinly sliced for shoestring fries
  • Add salt for taste.
  • 1 slice smoked cheddar cheese
  • 1 Martin’s potato bun

NOTE: If you MUST be healthy, I’ve subbed Dr. Prager’s California Burger for beef (V), greek yogurt for mayo, and TJ’s Caulifower Thins (GF).

Instructions for the NYC Bar Sardine Fedora Burger

  1. Heat up that saucepan, drizzle some oil, and toss in those potatoes. Let ’em sizzle until golden brown perfection.
  2. Once your shoestring fries are the definition of crispy goodness, let them chill on a paper towel.
  3. Now, onto the star of the show—your burger patty. Slap it on the heated pan and let it do its thing for around 4 minutes on each side.
  4. Cue the smoked cheddar—it’s time to melt that goodness onto your burger. Cover it up and let the cheese party commence.
  5. Whip up a quick BBQ aioli by mixing mayo and BBQ sauce. Saucy goodness unlocked!
  6. Toast that bun to perfection and assemble your burger masterpiece. Slather the top bun with BBQ aioli, pile on the pickle, onion, and shoestring fries.

Squish it all together, close your eyes, and imagine you’re back at Bar Sardine. Nostalgia in every bite!
